COPING STRATEGIES FOR COVID-19

November 19, 2020

Everyone responds to stress and crisis differently based on their background, culture and life experiences. It is important to spend some time reflecting on how you as an individual deal with crisis as it arises. Try reflecting on how you tend to react to crisis, what is your biological response to crisis (fight, flight and freeze), what are some of the initial worries and concerns that you may have about the crisis, is your response to the crisis health or unhealthy? What are some of the things that work for you when you're in crisis? What grounds you? What are some of the unhealthy habits that you may encounter in crisis? Do you find yourself isolating yourself from the problem and going in to denial or do you find yourself over thinking and analysing the crisis?

Taking some time to reflect on some of these points is a good first step in to becoming mindful and aware of what happens internally for you.

Exploring Family Dynamics

November 19, 2020

Family dynamics vary from family to family, this is due to your culture & sub-culture, religion, ethnicity, personal beliefs and values, family structure (Patriarchal, Matriarchal, etc..)

It is important to note that family dynamics can be quite complex and is often trans-generational, which means a lot of the family structure may be passed on from generation to generation. Quite often we find that family dynamics is centred around the internalised roles of each individual, their independence/ co-dependence, communication & conflict style as well as the subconsciously internalised roles and beliefs.

With the help of a family therapist, you can begin to explore your own family dynamics and come in to an enriched understanding of your family structure as well as  begin to explore new ways of enhancing your relationships through conflict resolution and communication.
